Unit 1-2 Identity-Diversity Bridge
In this "Bridge" between Unit 1: Identity and Unit 2: Diversity, we will begin to explore these issues hand in hand. Since we have spent time looking at individual pieces of identity (Names, Neighborhoods, Hair, Family) we will begin to look at how our identities inform our relationships with others. Central to this exploration will be two core questions: 1. What is diversity? and 2. How does "identity" relate to "diversity"? A specific focus on this will be exploring the value of difference. I hope to incorporate an understanding not only of these ideas as an overarching "thematic" connection, but also as they relate to us as individuals. What are different ways we might respond to difference? What is the difference between tolerance and acceptance? What can be gained by fostering diversity within a community (noting here that part of the CSS motto is "Strength in Diversity")? How can we, as a CSS community, celebrate and uphold this strength in and through diversity?
