Title: Reflections on Identity | Author: M Hill |
| Subject:ELA | Grade: 6 |
Week: 6 | Unit/Lesson Plan #: Identity |
Unit theme: Identity
| Textbook references:
|
Learning objectives: - To reflect on the Process of Writing and the exploration of identity - To reflect on the final Identity assembly/sharing | Key Questions, Concepts, or Themes:
|
Stage 1: Warm-up: In your ELA journals, respond to the following: Think back to our publication of identity pieces last week. How do you feel the assignment went? What stage of the writing process was the most difficult for you? Why? Which one was the easiest? After students have 5-10 minutes of thinking and writing time, reflect as a class, using these questions to guide/spark reflection. Also, ask students: - Did you learn anything new about yourself through this activity? - Did anything surprise you about your identity?
| |
Stage 2: Give students 5+ minutes to discuss as a table what they thought about the assembly. Particularly, give students a chance to reflect on the short film "Dimensions of Dialogue" (dir. Jan Svankmajer) - what did this film have to do with identity? - Move to full-class discussion based on this piece...
Stage 3: Organizational period for portfolios and binders. Hand out an updated "binder contents" and "portfolio contents" so that students are clear what pieces belong in binders/portfolios. Give students a chance to organize their work - moving pieces specifically related to this unit to their portfolios and keeping pieces that will be used in future ELA reference (such as Glossary of Literary Terms, Fiction v. Non-fiction, Process of Writing Reference, etc.) in CSS binders.
