Describing Distributions

Concepts:
Using a histogram, Stem Plot, or Dot Plot to describe data
Examples:
(1) Ask boys in class for their weight, make a Stem Plot of the data. Then describe the data using the 4 descriptors.
(2) If you are heavier than the boys, add your weight to the data set. Then describe outliers if none existed before.
(3) Have the girls write down privately their "desired" weight, collect, shuffle, and then make a Stem Plot. Note how this differs from the boys.
(4) Combine the data for the students.
