registration procedure
Hello,
In registration procedure name of teh country Serbia and Montenegro is not valid any more. It is Republic of Serbia, thus state province is not needed any more since Serbia and Srbija is the same.
Thanks,
vedran
directory
The new directory page is fantastic. I guess I better start putting key words on my work now so that is shows up. Also a big fan of the "most active curriculum topics" in the side bar, looks great.
melissa
Thanks!
Thanks Mel!
Next we're looking to make the menus collapsible, so the suptopics fold out of the main topics when you click.
Cheers,
Andrew
Inviting friends and colleagues
On some pages the "invite" says "friends" and on others it says "colleagues." Is there any real difference?
I sent two invites today, each to about 8 or so people. I expected to be able to see these again, as "joined, pending, expired." I also expected my "invites left" to go from 100 to 84, but it didn't. Does that mean that the functions for sending invitations differ depending on whether they are sent from within the team view or from my dashboard?
Thanks in advance
melissa
Thanks...you're right, that wasn't clear
Melissa,
Thanks for catching this...we'd been testing out two different invite modules, and hadn't decided yet...hence the confusion.
I've eliminated one, which simply invited people to the site, and left the other, which allows team managers to invite people to their team and the site at the same time. This avoids the confusing redundancy!
Cheers,
Andrew
COUNTRY STATE OF ORIGIN
Dear Andrew or whomever,
In registering I was stumped by the section on State of origin. They are all US based! Some people believe Australia is a state of USA!
Is this site exclusively for US educators?
I put in the name of a school  in New Hampshire that I know just to squeeze into the system. If there is any problem please delete me from your list.
By the way, I am particularly interested in working with teachers in Waldorf Charter schools 7-12.
Best wishes,
John Wright

Fixed....
John,
Thanks again for the feeback. I just sent you an email on this as well...we had been stumped on how to get all provinces and countries to show up in our registration form...your prodding motivated me to figure it out.
The next step, which we'll probably hold off on for awhile, is to fully internationalize the site so that all menus and help sections are translated into whatever language you need. This can be done, but we need to build a viable open curriculum development model first, I think. Adding translation barriers to the mix is more than my brain can handle at the moment.
Cheers,
Andrew
Aussie Aussie Aussie!
Andrew, I have busily inviting local colleagues as you may have seen. As much as I am used to scrolling through a list to find "home," one of my friends mentioned that it was frustrating to have to scroll through such a long list. Registration is a very minor part of what the site does, but I guess its one of the first things we all have to deal with when we find the site.
Good luck!

Inclusion is costly
I agree, the registration form is a nightmare...but it may not be possible to fix the problem you cite in the immediate future.
If we are to be "open" in the international sense of the word (much of the benefit of open teaching resources in particular is their benefit to developing nations) we don't have much choice but to have an international option set on the registration form.
We could eliminate the state / prvince business, but it seems to really matter from a standards perspective that people be able to locate educators in their area.
Until a "smart" form can be developed (in which the country choice then pre-empts the state-province list to be limited only to relevant choices) I'm afraid Victoria is among the last...though by no means least;)
Best,
Andrew
Updating the User Registration form?
Hi Andrew,
The other way to do this is to create 2 items in the profile, country and province/state. Then you just include an 'other' default option for all those poor users who live in countries like, let's say the United Kingdom, that don't suffer from a decentralized 'out-of-touch' federal government.
Of course this would mean that our current users that are signed up would end up having an extra empty field show up in their profiles, but you and I could probably fix that with some database finangling.

Barriers to getting started with a curriculum project
... getting started
Janet, I got totally lost on the first step too! Before making pages in a book we have to create a team. Is that what you mean?
