CSS STAFF
CSS’s leader is a person who has experience running a school as well as being someone who can bridge the community. Ideally it would be someone who is bilingual and bicultural who can relate to both the world of academics and the community surrounding the school. Â
The teachers will be highly qualified, passionate people to be part of the school's planning team and to potentially become founding faculty. We are specifically interested in teacher candidates with graduate degrees in education or an appropriate field of specialty, avid interest and knowledge in science-math or engineering, life or academic experiences in international settings (e.g. travel, study or living abroad), interdisciplinary training or interests, and a commitment to rigorous progressive-constructivist educational practices.
Intellectual curiosity, a humanistic world outlook, the capacity to work in teams and be a school leader, and a commitment to professional excellence are requisites. Bilingual proficiency (English –Spanish) and experience working with diverse students in urban settings is highly desirable. Because the founding faculty will be intimately involved in all aspects of building a new secondary school community, we are interested in teachers who are leaders and creative risk takers, and who do not fear the extra responsibilities that come with building a new school. CSS faculty will enjoy being part of the Columbia University academic community and benefit from having access to the university's vast educational, recreational and cultural resources.
