Team description:
Welcome to the unofficial online support community for science teachers in the Brevetti Network of Empowerment Schools, in New York City. We propose that this online space be understood as "unofficial" so that it is in no way to be construed as existing under the leadership, oversight or evaluation of the New York City Department of Education, and is instead to be understood as a voluntary association of colleagues and network staff for the purposes of mutual support.
This team structure can provide us a place to develop and work towards some common curricular projects. For example, it may be fruitful to collect a set of best practices, documents and resources for guiding students through the performance-based assessment tasks as well as a set of sensible interim assessment practices (that we must develop anyway) for 2008.
More ambitiously (but no less possible) it might also be helpful for specific subject area or mentor-new teacher teams to form around the specific goal of shared course planning and feedback.
I look forward to the benefits of an empowered network...
Cheers,
Andrew
