Delegating book sections

Thanks for being part of the experiment. In many ways, we are trying to think of this as a working model in online collaborative process...the use of protocols are an experiment in trying to get a diverse group to work together smoothly and equitably.

Please respond to this post by indicating your preferences for leading the forum discussion of a section or multiple sections of the book, as they are layed out below. There are some longer sections, and some shorter, providing opportunities for those with more or less free time.

After the first section, the book makes the case for 7 education policy recommendations, so I think it would make the most sense for people to take ownership of leading these separately. (Since these are short, feel free to volunteer for multiple sections in Part II.)

A. Executive summary pp. xv - xxxi (since this part is pretty glossy, we'll leave this to a free for all forum discussion, if people want to)

B. Part I: The Nature of the Challenge Now (pp 1 - 48)

Discussion Leader: Randy Zeigenfuss

C. Part II: The Scenario: The Recommendations as They Might Look from the Vantage Point of an Observer in 2021

#1: A Performance-Based System (pp 51-58)

Discussion Leader: Peter Stinson

#2: Getting and Keeping World-Class Teachers (pp 58 - 67)

Discussion Leader: Jennifer Stillman

#3: Creating high-performance schools and districts everywhere (pp 67 - 78)

Discussion Leader: [name here]

#4: Early childhood education (pp 78 - 80)

Discussion Leader: [name here]

#5: Strong support for the students who need it most (pp 80-82)

Discussion Leader: Andrew Stillman

#6 Getting the standards, curriculum, and assessments right (pp 82 - 87)

Discussion Leader: Andrew Stillman

#7 Workforce skills for workers of all ages (pp 87 - 95)

Discussion Leader: [name here]

I will update this post, adding names to the roster every time someone responds volunteering to lead a section.

To see the discussion protocol the group is using, see:

http://www.openplanner.org/node/391

(feel free to add a recommendation for improving the protocol, if it doesn't seem right...)

Cheers,

Andrew

Part I

I'd be happy to lead the discussion for Part I. And if there is anyone else interested in leading for this (longer) section, I'd be glad to share the responsibilities.

I like the protocol that Andrew has outlined, and am looking forward to learning from everyone.

Randy

I'll take....

Getting and Keeping World Class Teachers. Since I'm currently writing a policy paper on "Teacher Quality" for a graduate class, this seems like a good fit. Looking forward to the discussion, book club friends!

I'll take...

And another or two if needed...

Now, if the book would just arrive...

Thanks!

I've added you to the list Peter. Thanks!

We still have only 5 members, so feel free to use the "invite new teammates" link in the group home page if you can think of anyone who would also enjoy...

Cheers,

Andrew
