Foucs question: How to structures of modern aircraft resemble the flying structure of birds? A: Both birds and aircraft must be lightweight yet durable. They must have a long wingspan to catch the wind, and thier weight must be evenly distributed. Both birds and aircraft must have landing gear appropriate for type of landing surface they use. |

Stage 2: The wide variety of animal innovations some of which are pictured on page 67 are largely adapations to the particular environment in which that animal ives. Have students make a list of at least five animal innovations other than the ones pictured on this page.
