Stage 1:

  Ask students how fast living organisms can grow. Tell them that gaint kelp can grow 36-41cm perday and reach a hieght of 61 M.

Stage 2:

  If possible, take students outdoors for the rree-compaision acitivty. You may wish to provide students with the circumference measurments of a seedling and a full-grown tree. To find the area of leaves, students may outline the leaves on graph paper and then count the squares within the outline
