Stage 1: WARM-UP: Students will be given a sheet on which to recall: "What do you know about... [Plot, Setting, Character, Theme, Conflict]?" Students will be given a chance to brainstorm these items before working on them as a class.

|
Stage 2: As a class, we will recall what each part of a short story means, and work together to define all terms.
|
|
|
Stage 3: Students will engage in reading out loud "Zlateh the Goat," Prentice Hall Literature, p. 206-213, and we will stop periodically to identify and discuss how parts of a short story play into this text.
|
|
|
Homework: Independently finish reading "Zlateh the Goat" on pages 206-213 in your Prentice Hall Literature Book, and answer questions #3, 4, and 5 on page 214. Write responses in complete sentences on a separate sheet of looseleaf paper.
(Questions assigned pertain to identifying parts of a short story, particularly conflict).
