Unit theme: Intoduces students to both the strucutre of cells and the proper use of the microscope.

Cells are fundamental units of living things.

Cellls have internal structures that can be examined with a microscope.

The structure of plant cells and animals cells have similarities and differences.

Stage 1:

  Have students exmaine under the microscope slide of cork, discuss what they see. 

Stage 2:

  Go over the detials of plant and animal cells, use hand out to color cells.

Stage 3:

  For the lab we will look at edible cells: Reteaching strategies to look at slides of Elodea or other leaf sudrfaces. Ak them to draw what they see. Fianlly, have students record a thier thoughts about microscopes in sciencelog.
