  Cell Theory

Stage 1:

  Discussions: Ask students if they can feel the flurry of activity within thier own cells that keeps them alive. (NO). Ask them how they know thier cells are working. (breath, digest food, move)

Stage 2:

  Demonstrate how a vacuole within a cell by filling a balloon with water or air and putting it insdie a clear plastic storage bag. Show how the valcuole is paer of the cell and is disticnt within the cell . 

Stage 3:

 

Have students imagine that the organelles in a cell are rebelling against the nucleus: they think they work too hard and wantt to take a vacation. Have students write a dialog between the nucleus and the other organelles. Tell them to help each organelle present a case as for why it needs a rest and then have the nucleus explains what would happen if even one of them took two weeks off!
