Our understanding of microorgansims can be used to control them for our use.

Harmful microorgansims can be controlled without harming beneficial microorgamsims.

Stage 1:

  have students read the paragragh silently. when they finish direct thier attention to the diagram. Call on volunteers to read each of the steps aloud. Dicuss each step. How to solve problems.

Stage 2:

  Who is Louis Pasteur?  Have student look at the picture on page 159. What is the man doing? How is the lab different from today's labs?

Stage 3:

  Remind students that micoorganisms are responsible for the decay of anmial and plant matter. Ask what do you think if life would be like if nothing ever decayed? Have students work in small groups and develop a story to illutarte thier ideas.
