Stage 1: Getting Started: Explain to students that there are a wide variety of landforms on Earth. Ask students to think of some landforms and to describe them. Share the following facts: The highestmoutian: Mt. Everest (8848m), The lowest point: Dead Sea (393 m below sea level), the longest rive: The Nile River (6690 km), the largest sheet of ice covers 98% of Antarctica with a thickness of 2200m, the largest desert is the Sahara (9,000,000 km2) |

Stage 2: (Find Canyon Video) have the students imgaine that they are travlers with the historical figures Garcia Lopez de Cardenas 1540 explorer and the geologist John Wesley Powell 1869. Have them watch or look at text of the canyon and have them write a short diraty entry on thier observations and thoughts about the canyon. |

Stage 3: LAB Have students read the travle poster look at National Geograhic magazine and a map. Students will identify many locations with different geological features. We can also compile a slide show of different places which are senic that students have visited. Students are to write a sales presentation or design a travel brochure for geologist. Assign students roles (creative manager, copy writer, team manger, and editor) Write a self assessment. |
