GLA Secondary Advisory Handbook

Advisory serves several functions and purposes in our school: building and maintaining relationships between staff, students, and parents; increasing study skills and habits; developing positive social skills; monitoring student records and acedemic progress; providing service learning opprotunities; developing goals and planning for post secondary life. A advisory teacher takes on different roles in this class than typical teaching roles.
- Relationships (student-student, student-staff, parent-staff) focusing on making meaningful connections piece, (fun, team building, parent contacts,etc.)
- Study skills,
- Social skills direct instruction (bullying, conflict resolution, communication skills, etc.)
- Monitoring student records and academic progress,
- Service learning: ongoing relationship in school community
- Futures (college/career planning), Portfolio piece (10th grade passage, capstone etc. thinking: different for each grade level)
