Background information for this curriculum

The objective of English education in Japanese high schools Cultivate Japanese who can use English (by MEXT : the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology )

→　To　cultivate Japanese students' communication skills, the improvement of listening and speaking are important to achieve this objective

→Based on this revision of English education, listening section has been introduced into Center Test since 2006..

The aim of this listening test

1. To evaluate students' communication skills including listening and speaking
2. To bring an impact on English education in high schools

This listening test

1. covers various types of listening from monologue to dialogue
2. converse various types of listening from daily conversation to announcement
3. converse various levels of listening from short dialogue to long research result

Two main roles of this Center Test

1. the measurement for general listening comprehension
2. the medium to improve their listening comprehension

 (If they can understand the questions in the listening test, they may be able to improve their general listening comprehension. )
