Issue: How can we successfully integrate into a foreign culture?

“Let’s think of English names for ourselves.”In this activity, the students will choose an English name and I will refer to them by that name during the class. I will also choose a Japanese name for myself since I am American. I believe that this will demonstrate the essence of cultural exchange. In addition, students will be able to better embrace western culture. They can use their English names again when they go abroad and feel oneness in their new environments. 

I.                   Mini Test (Review of last week’s vocabulary and natural phrases)

1.      How do you earn a living?

2.      I will foot the bill today

3.      I am a greenhorn so I don’t think I can do this job.

4.      He words are awe inspiring.

5.      He is also an amiable person.

6.      Just let it go. We will have another test next month.

V. Discussion:

What would be your ideal first day in a foreign country? (from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM)                            

Who would you meet? What would you say to them? Where would you go?  What would you eat?

VI. Project

(students will discuss their ideal first day. They must use some of the previously learned natural phrases in their     presentation.)
