Mock Supreme Court

Conducting a Mock Supreme Court is one of the key learning activities of Law Debate. Below are links to all of the resources you'll need: an introductory lesson plan, the suggested assignment for student lawyers, suggested cases to use, suggested research tips for students, sign-up/organizational sheets, and suggested assignments for the Justices and audience members who may not be a lawyer or Justice in a particular case. I've also posted my grading rubrics to use during Supreme Court simulations. My approach is to give the students cases to argue that have never been argued before in front of the Supreme Court. This way, the students can't just look up what someone else already argued, they will have to create their own arguments, using their own legal ideas about how this case could be argued if it ever makes it to the Supreme Court. I have made up all of these cases based on debate topics listed at www.debatabase.org.
