Co-Directors and Founding Partners

Andrew Stillman

Andrew is the co-founder of Open Educator, and the Associate Director for Technology and Information Systems at the Columbia Secondary School, in Manhattan, New York. Andrew is a self-taught open source software enthusiast, and he built www.openplanner.org with the combined brilliance of thousands of open-source programmers in the Drupal development community. Andrew's past teaching experiences include five years of physics, biology, and advisory at the School for Legal Studies, in Brooklyn and the Humanities Preparatory Academy, in Manhattan, where he made great strides with high-needs students using a research-based approach he learned through teacher-led NSF summer workshops at Arizona State University. His other experiences in education include co-leading a summer graduate course for teachers in Modeling Physics at the Buffalo State University, taking young people on extended, residential conservation projects working for the Northwest Youth Corps, and teaching sailing to both children and adults. Andrew has a B.A. from the University of Oregon in physics and philosophy, an M.A. in science education from The City College of New York, and is currently pursuing an MSEd in Educational Leadership at the Baruch College School of Public Affairs.


Jennifer Stillman

Jennifer is the co-founder of Open Educator, and a doctoral student in the field of Politics and Education at Columbia University, Teacher's College, focusing her research on the effective use of technology for teachers, and the relationship between schools and gentrification. Prior to returning to school to further her own education, Jennifer taught high school social studies for 6 years at schools in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Fairfax County, Virginia. Her area of expertise is government and politics, with a special concentration in high school law courses. She was the recipient of an Annenberg Civic Education Initiative Fellowship, working with teachers from around the country to improve civic education for high school students. Jennifer also spent 6 years working on Capitol Hill for U.S. Senator Harry Reid, learning the political process firsthand as a Legislative Correspondent, Deputy Press Secretary, and Deputy Research Director of Reid's 1998 reelection campaign. Jennifer has a B.A. in government from The College of William and Mary, and an M.A. in social studies curriculum and instruction from George Mason University.


David Wees

David has been involved since Open Educator's inception, and is a rapidly developing web designer. He currently teaches mathematics and physics in a posh secondary school in London. Prior to his current job, he spent three years in the NYC public schools teaching high-needs Brooklyn kids how to pass the State examination in mathematics. During his last year as a teacher in the US, he received a 'Teacher of the Year' award from the students of the school, and a 'Best Mathematics Teacher' award from his department. He endeavors to teach mathematics as creatively as possible, attempting to have the students formulate much of their own knowledge, while carefully preserving the appropriate language surrounding the mathematics being learned. His current focus outside of school is on developing his ability to create resources for teaching mathematics that are available online. He has a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) and a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Kofi Donnelly

Kofi has been teaching physics as well as mathematics and photography at a private school in Manhattan for the past five years. He is a disciple of the Modeling Instruction in Physics Program, having spent two consecutive summers in teacher workshops at Arizona State University in Phoenix. His prior experience as an educator includes ESL instructor in Mexico, South Korea, and Riverdale, NY, as well as teaching assistant and instructor in physics at the City College of New York. Kofi earned a B.A. in psychology from Rutgers University, and after attending The City College of New York to complete coursework for a B.S. in physics briefly entered a physics doctoral program at NYU, before he found his calling in the classroom. He also has an M.A. in secondary science education from The City College of NY.

Keith McClaren

Keith is a technical executive with over 10 years of management experience in internet startup organizations. He is one of the thought leaders in the educational technology industry, and has pioneered numerous technological advances in the field. He has been both a Brandon Hall Award winner and judge, and is currently employed as a Product Manager with HorizonWimba. Previous experience includes positions at VCampus Corporation, ITC Learning, and Hughes Training, Inc.

Janet Saylor

Janet recently joined the Expeditionary Learning School for Community Leaders, in Brooklyn, NY, as the founding science teacher. Janet has spent the past 8 years teaching both math and physics at high schools in Bergen County, New Jersey. She has participated in extensive science education professional development, and served as a consultant to the MIT Open Course Ware (OCW) project and the Center for Educational Computing Initiatives (CECI). Janet earned her B.S. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1986, and her Ph.D. in Physics from Clark University in 1992.


Roshan Shah

Roshan Shah founded BPO Canada in March of 2006. Before starting BPO Canada, Roshan worked in various permanent and consulting roles with multinational companies including HP, IBM-Unisource, JP Morgan, Macmillan Computer Publishing, Larsen and Toubro Infotech, GAP, Satyam, Gloscon, Speedware and Peerflix.

Roshan has significant experience in managing outsourcing of application development and technical support while building high performance software teams. Roshan brings this wealth of experience to Open Educator's board to guide us in maintaining our leading-edge open source, web-based collaboration platform.

Roshan - a Certified Project Manager - is a Computer Engineering graduate with an Advanced Diploma in Enterprise Management and a Diploma in Business Finance. Roshan has worked across US, Singapore, India and Canada.

Hillary Rubenstein

Hillary is currently teaching 6th grade science as a founding teacher at a new charter school in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Prior to this, she was the science department chair at the Rodeph Sholom School in New York City for four years, and taught science at the Green Chimneys School in Brewster, NY, the Sacred Heart Elementary School in San Francisco, and at The Dalton School in New York City. Hillary earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Earth and Environmental Science from Wesleyan University and her Master of Arts in Science Education at Columbia University’s Teachers College.

Dan Fitzgerald Weiner

Dan is a publicist based in the New York Metropolitan area. Dan's public relations career has afforded him the opportunity to work with a diversified list of clients, ranging from startups to national corporations, to everything in between. Dan has a B.A. from Seton Hall University.

Randy Wells

Randy is a creative director who currently runs a studio called The Outfit. Randy continues to work with a diverse list of clients ranging from the fashion label Akademiks to non-governmental organizations associated with the United Nations. Randy received his Bachelor degree at San Francisco State University and a Master's degree at the New School for Social Research. He has also studied at Oxford University. His focus outside of his creative endeavors is to work toward progressive social change.
